- 補完とチャットで止まっている人と、仕事を任せている人を分けるのは、リポジトリに何を仕込んであるかですGitHub Copilot は毎日使っている。補完は手に馴染んでいるし、チャットで質問もする。けれど Agent mode をどこから本気で使えばいいのか決めかねている。custom instructions は置いてみたものの、効いているのかどうか分からない。外部ツールを繋いでみたが、手元では動いたのにクラウドに投げたら同じようにならなかった。こうした状態で止まっている方は少なくないはずです。2026年の Copilot は、補完ツールという像からかなり離れたところにいます。Agent mode は複数のファイルをまたいで編集し、コマンドを実行し、結果を見て自分で直します。クラウド側のエージェントは、依頼を投げておけばリポジトリを調べ、実装の計画を立て、コードを書いてプルリクエストを起こしてきます。この差を生んでいるのはプロンプトの上手さではありません。リポジトリに何を仕込んであるかと、その外側にどんなガードレールを置いたかです。本書は、海外のプロフェッショナルが実際に置いている資産を集めた一冊です。全17本・約31万字・図25点。こんな方にCopilot の補完とチャットは日常的に使っているが、Agent mode をどこから本気で使えばよいか決めかねているエンジニアcustom instructions を置いてみたものの、効いているのかどうか分からないまま運用している開発者依頼を投げておけばプルリクエストが返ってくる非同期の開発フローを、レビューできる形で回したい方チームに Copilot を配り、コストとポリシーとレビュー体制まで含めて設計したい技術リード本書が繰り返し戻る三つの落とし穴置いたのに効いていない。custom instructions は強制力ではなく、限られたコンテキストウィンドウを食う材料の一部でしかありません。「指示が無視される」という不満と「古い指示に固執して直らない」という不満は、同じ一つの原因から説明できますサーフェスが変われば、効く設定とコンテキストが変わる。エディタ、ターミナル、クラウドのエージェントといったサーフェスごとに、読むファイルも使える外部ツールも見えるものも違います。手元で完成させた手順をそのまま投げた瞬間に破綻するのはこのためです既定では数えず、有効にすると通す。Copilot のレビューは既定では必須承認にカウントされません。ところが設定を一つ有効にすると、人間の同僚の承認とまったく同じ重みで必須承認を満たします本書の特徴設計判断の書として書いています。各節は「何ができるか」ではなく「どちらを選ぶか、なぜか」で立てています。機能の一覧を並べるのではなく、迷ったときに戻れる判断の軸を置きました。腐りやすい値を本文から隔離しました。プランの金額、クレジットの付与量、提供状況。これらはすべて付録へ確認日つきでまとめ、本文は「選び方」と「確認手順」に徹しています。モデルの顔ぶれだけは一覧を刷らず、確認先のページを書いてあります。GitHub Copilot は機能名と課金体系の入れ替わりが極めて速い題材だからです。執筆中に前提が五つ崩れました。一次情報を確認したところ、企画の段階で正しいと思っていたことが五つ誤りだと分かりました。名前が変わったもの、併存すると思っていたら改称だったもの、既定の挙動が想定と逆だったもの。その経緯も本書に書いています。追い方そのものを付録に書きました。本書が古くなったとき、あなたが自分で最新の状態を確認できるように、一次情報の場所と、英語で検索するときの語をまとめてあります。こんな課題に直面しているならcustom instructions をどこに置き、何を書き、どこまでの分量に収めるべきか判断できないプロンプトファイル、スキル、カスタムエージェントの使い分けが決められない手元では動く手順が、クラウドのエージェントでは同じように動かないMCP サーバーを繋いだが、サーフェスによって使えたり使えなかったりする理由が分からない課金がトークンベースに変わってから、消費が読めないAI レビューを入れたのに、品質が担保されている実感がないチームに配ったあと、誰が何を管理するのか決まっていない本書の構成第0章で地図とクイックリファレンスを示します。改称と廃止の年表もここにあり、古い記事を読むときの変換表として使えます。第I部（第1〜7章）は仕込みの部品を一つずつ扱います。コンテキストの配分、custom instructions、手順と役割、モードとサーフェス、モデルとクレジット、外部ツール、ガードレール。第II部（第8〜11章）は用途ごとに組み上げます。第8章は人が起点で同期、第9章は人が起点で非同期、第10章は機械が起点の自動化、第11章は組織。「非同期かどうか」ではなく「誰が起点か」で分けています。付録は機能総覧、海外情報源ガイド、英語検索キーワード集の三本です。各章の末尾には「この章の鬼Tips」を五項目置きました。その場で試せる粒度にしてあります。設定を一つ変えることが、プロンプトを百回工夫することより効く場面は、思っているより多くあります。本書が、あなたの GitHub Copilot の使い方を補完から委譲へ進める一冊になれば幸いです。
