Slingshot is a novel that explores young love and angst. The story is compelling and deceptively couched in terms of the young teenager and her first encounter with love. However, it is a deep psychological exploration of the human condition that applies on many levels to people of all ages. The author's writing style is witty, funny, and very intelligent. The novel provokes a roller coaster of emotions that includes liking characters and then hating them just as much in the next chapter, which is actually a very accurate reflection of emotions felt at the age of 15-16. The author found better ways of describing the emotions than many people could have back then, which is sort of therapeutic in a way.
