Detalles de producto
- “Unmistakably from first page to last an L. M. Montgomery novel, compact of sentiment, rosily trimmed with romance, peopled with being drawn solely out of the imagination, but telling a well-made story with humor and pathos.”—The New York Times Book ReviewThe Blue Castle, one of L. M. Montgomery’s few adult works of fiction, is a heartwarming tale of love, self-discovery, and second chances. Valancy Stirling, a young woman of twenty-nine, has spent her entire life living in the shadow of her overbearing mother and gossipy extended family. She has never dared to defy their low expectations of her or attempted to gain independence and had long abandoned any hope of marriage. But when she receives a devastating diagnosis, Valancy decides it’s time to take control of her life and live it to the fullest. As she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, Valancy encounters a cast of quirky, vividly drawn characters who help her kindle a newfound passion for life. With its charming and relatable characters, and its beautifully written prose, The Blue Castle is a timeless and captivating read about an endearing heroine breaking free of the constraints of society, the expectations of a judgmental family, and her own past. This Warbler Classics edition includes a detailed biographical timeline.Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942) published her first book, Anne of Green Gables in 1908. An immediate success, it established Montgomery’s career, and she wrote and published material, including numerous sequels to Anne, for the rest of her life. By the time of death in 1942 she had published twenty novels, hundreds of short stories and poems, and thirty essays.

Family Saga Editorial Review
**** "The Blue Castle" (Warbler Classics Annotated Edition) has received a warm reception from readers, many of whom found themselves captivated by its charming narrative and relatable protagonist, Valancy Stirling. Initially, some readers noted a slow start, expressing their struggle to engage with the plot during the first half of the book. However, perseverance frequently rewarded them, as the latter part of the story is rich with emotional depth and satisfying developments, particularly in the romance realm. Fans of L. M. Montgomery will appreciate the distinctiveness of this novel compared to her more famous works like "Anne of Green Gables." The ambiance of natural beauty and descriptive Prose reminiscent of Montgomery's writing style is a highlight for readers, drawing them into a world filled with humor, warmth, and reflection. Many praised the character of Valancy for her relatability and tenacity, emerging as a heroine beloved by fans. Several comments about the edition itself touched on its aesthetic appeal, although some readers mentioned minor aspects regarding the print format, such as the style of chapter endings. Notably, while the edition was labeled as "annotated," readers pointed out that it did not include annotations, leading to some confusion over the product description. Overall, those who connected with the narrative and characters found "The Blue Castle" to be an engaging, worthwhile read that holds an emotional resonance long after the last page is turned. **
