- Yu Hua first gained fame in the late 1980s through a series of provocative short stories and novellas that placed him at the forefront of avant-garde literature in China. He has many works translated into world languages, and apart from this book, three more books have been translated into Turkish.In this book, Yu Hua focuses on the life of a poor family living in the countryside during the Mao period in the 1970s, and describes the turning points in the lives of individuals a few generations ago in a time tunnel, sometimes going forward and sometimes backward.The middle son, Sun Guanglin, was first given up for adoption, and the child returns home 5 years later at the age of 12, because the adoptive family experiences a great disaster. Sun Guanglin's youth is filled with dramatic experiences, and shortly after returning home, the family's house burns down; A wedding in the village turns into a terrifying experience, the death of a family member leads to opportunistic and treacherous relationships, and family loyalty evaporates. The father wants to relieve the pain of the little brother's death by beating the middle child. As memories begin to come back to life and be expressed, the boundaries between fantasy and reality in the book's narrative become blurred, giving a fascinating reading experience. Show more
